Municipal And Industrial Data Labs (MAID Labs) creates practical multi-application datalogging devices and intuitive software. Our unique volumetric flow algorithm calculates flow with extreme accuracy in wastewater lift or pump stations. Some municipalities use it for billing purposes.

The pumps are connected, using up to nine current and/or voltage sensors, to a very small battery-operated portable or fixed datalogger. The ratio of flow to power consumption allows the users to compare equipments on the same level: efficiency.

It took 18 years of research to optimize our Volucalc™ volumetric flow algorithm to its actual level of accuracy. In the process, it became the standard for many important wastewater related organizations.

Based on flow variation and pump operation, its built-in artificial intelligence automatically adjusts its own parameters to the highest possible level of accuracy, which exceed 98.5% for most lift stations.

MERMAID ELECTRICAL INPUT DATA LOGGER

MerMaid™ (motor event recorder) was created with specifications for the pump station market in mind. This did not stop the industrial electrical community using it for troubleshooting inexpensive to multimillion dollar equipment. Its predictive maintenance features makes it the instrument of choice to find electrical problems faster and to prevent them.

USE EFFICIENCY TO EVALUATE PUMPS, NOT FLOW

Efficiency is the volume of water moved per unit of energy. 95% of the operating cost of a pump is electricity. Would you change or repair a pump operating at 90% of the capacity of the others? If this pump uses 70% of the energy of the others, this pump would be 28% more efficient than the others. Would you repair the others instead?

WASTEWATER LIFT OR PUMP STATION EVALUATION

Take five minutes to install the MerMaid datalogger using current clamps and/or voltage sensor. Check the dimension of the wet well and enter them in the software. Connect a raingauge if you want to do an infiltration study. Come back in one week to collect 1,000 cycles of data and get the following data:

• Sequence of operation of the pumps
• Inflow rate (minimum and maximum with time, average)
• Pump capacity for each
• Power consumption (kWAh)
• Efficiency per pump (flow/kWAh)
• Cumulative volume
• Number of starts per pump (single and combined)
• Run time per pump (single and combined)
• Quality of voltage supplied by power utility
• Abnormal starts or stops
• Each cycle are recorded
• Multiple current and/or voltage readings per cycle
• Multiple graphs including flow, rain, current per phase per pump and same with voltage
• MerMaid can record near 500,000 triple-phase readings

With the two internal alkaline Type C batteries, you should be OK for three to six months. An AC power supply is available. MerMaid can be permanently installed or used as a portable device to calculate flow and/or to troubleshoot simple to complex electrical problems.
