Australian Water Association (AWA) Australia's Leading Membership Association for Water Professionals and Organisations

The Australian Water Association is Australia’s leading membership association for water professionals and organisations.

AWA is independent and not for profit. It plays an essential role in supporting the Australian water sector in the delivery of effective and sustainable water management practices.

Our mission is to foster knowledge, understanding and advancement in sustainable water management – its science, practice and policy – through advocacy, collaboration and professional development.

We operate across all Australian States and Territories through an active branch network, as well as maintaining extensive international links, including with the International Water Association.

AWA’s activities are centred around a comprehensive programme of conferences, workshops, publications, industry programmes, training courses, networking and b2b opportunities.

AWA’s Annual Conference and Exhibition is Australia’s largest water industry event.

AWA membership

AWA works with and for our members to deliver programmes and services that effectively meet their needs.

A significant number of our members take an active and voluntary role in all aspects of AWA’s work, at both a national and state level.

In 2013, membership of AWA stands at more than 5,500 members, including in excess of 600 corporate members.

Our strong corporate membership base includes government agencies, Australia’s leading water utilities, engineering and manufacturing companies.

Australian Water Association services

AWA runs a full programme of technical seminars, workshops and conferences throughout the year.

On average one AWA event is held every four days. Australia’s premier water industry event, Ozwater, is also managed by AWA.

Furthermore, AWA publishes a number of publications to keep our members informed about the latest news and developments in the water sector.

Publications include branch newsletters, a weekly e-newsletter and ‘Water’, Australia’s leading water industry journal.

A significant part of the value AWA provides to members arises from its ongoing advocacy activities at both national and state level.

In the coming years there will be an increased focus on ensuring that the interests of members are promoted to parliamentarians and government decision makers.

International collaboration and networking

AWA is the gateway to international collaboration and networking in water.

The Australian committee of the International Water Association is a branch of the AWA.

Additionally, AWA is a regional affiliate of the International Desalination Association and has strong bilateral ties with water associations around the globe.
