Benin Water, Life and Human Development

This paper analyses the progress made by West African country Benin in the water and sanitation sector towards achieving its millennium development goal (MGD).

According to a latest survey, 70.6% of the population has access to safe water, which include 82.2% in urban areas and 62.8% in rural areas, while 9% of the households rely on unsafe sources.

The paper also states that Benin will require around $60m a year for water and around $24m a year for sanitation to achieve the MGD target.

The paper not only examines current strategies but also suggests ways to achieve the MGD target.
