Water Efficiency Saves Energy: Reducing Global Warming Pollution Through Water Use Strategies

This paper suggests water efficiency measures to cut energy use, protect dry areas from drought and reduce global warming.

The collection, distribution and treatment of drinking water and wastewater consume large amounts of energy and release 116 billion pounds of carbon dioxide a year in the US.

The paper states that across the US about 4% of power generation is used for water supply and treatment. If 1% of Americans replaced an older toilet with a more efficient one, the country could save 38 million kilowatt-hours of electricity.
