Organic Matter and Heavy Metals in Greywater Sludge
10 June 2010Sludge from bathroom greywater is screened for the presence of metals, short-chain fatty alcohols and acids organic matter content by oxygen utilisation rate (OUR). This study from the Technical University of Denmark found that sludge contained cadmium and nickel metal loads that exceeded Danish quality criteria.
Oxygen utilisation rate tests indicated that the greywater biological sludge had a higher content of organic matter too.
The report ascertained the best way to manage greywater sludge in a sustainable manner was to find more data on the composition and production rate of sludge.
