Global Corporate Water Footprint
27 August 2010Since water is a scarce commodity, water management will have a strong bearing on corporates especially in a globalised economy. According to this report, the demand for water will surpass the water supply by 40% in 2030 and half of the world will live in water-scarce areas.
Industries like food, power generation, mining, and pulp and paper will be severely affected by water scarcity as they depend directly on water. Increased agricultural water demand to meet the need of growing population and municipal water demand in urban areas will also put strain on water resources.
Despite the challenges ahead very few corporates are preparing themselves for the scarcity that is going to impact on business.
