NSF / ANSI 61: Your Answer for Lead-Free

From 4 January 2014, all non-exempt pipes, pipe fittings, plumbing fittings and fixtures manufactured with NSF / ANSI 61 certification will comply with the lead-free requirements of the Safe Drinking Water Act (SDWA).

Prior to the new rules being introduced, the 0.25% weighted average lead content test was optional under NSF / ANSI 61. The test is now compulsory for all products, and all manufactured items will be required to display the 'Certified to NSF / ANSI 61' mark.

A product may exhibit a variety of marking combinations to demonstrate compliance with the SDWA lead-free requirements.
