Definition:

Saline water is water that contains high levels of dissolved solids and is generally considered unsuitable for human consumption. Saline water contains more than 1,000 parts per million (ppm) of dissolved solids of any type. Also expressed as milligrams per liter (mg/L) of dissolved solids.
