Adionics unveils new desalination technology

France-based separations processes company Adionics has unveiled new disruptive technology AquaOmnes that can remove salts from water through saline water deionisation by liquid to liquid absorption.

The low-energy and low-cost technology works at ambient pressures with a low liquid discharge, according to the company.

Designed for any kind of saline water, from municipal to industrial including brine, AquaOmnes cuts down the price of produced water compared to existing desalination technologies.

It was selected by the Worldwide Innovation Challenge Commission sponsored by the French Government in the ‘Value-creation through Sea: desalination and marine wealth’ category in March.

Adionics founder and CEO Guillaume de Souza said that the company’s AquaOmnes technology removes salt from saline water, while classic desalination technologies remove water from saline water.

"For seawater for example, we move only 3.5% of the mass and therefore consume far less energy. It works from brackish water to highly concentrated brine. This is where the innovation lies and we aim to democratise in this way the access to desalination for all," de Souza added.

Adionics is currently working to implement the AquaOmnes technology for a client in the Middle East.
