Canada opens new water and sewage system in Pilot Butte

A partnership including federal, provincial and municipal governments has opened a new water treatment and sewage disposal facility in Pilot Butte, Saskatchewan, Canada.

The project has included the construction of a water treatment plant, raw water pipeline and distribution system, as well as a sewage disposal facility including a sewage pumping station. The new treatment plant will also supply water to the Town of Balgonie through a pipeline, which is situated a few kilometres to the east.

Approximately $25m has been invested in the project. Of the total, $12.9m was provided by the federal and provincial governments, while Pilot Butte contributed approximately $12m.

The Government of Saskatchewan has supported the project through the Saskatchewan Infrastructure Growth Initiative by providing interest subsidies on funds of up to $812,992 over a five-year period.

Regina-Qu’Appelle Member of Parliament Andrew Scheer said: "The Government of Canada has invested in this major initiative in Pilot Butte because it will provide clean, drinkable water and help to ensure a healthy and prosperous community for years to come."

Balgonie deputy mayor Ed Sigmeth said: "The Town of Pilot Butte appreciates the federal and provincial contributions to our municipal water and sewer infrastructure, which satisfies current conditions and recognises an investment in the future growth of our community."
