Gaza water line and sewage plant damaged in Israeli airstrikes

Israeli airstrikes have attacked the main line for al-Shati refugee camp west of Gaza City, which supplies water to over 70,000 people and is expected to take many days to repair.

The director of the Water Department in the Municipality of Gaza, Saad Eddin Al-Atbash told imemc.org: "Israeli aircraft targeted a sewage plant west of the city, which serves the areas of al-Shati Camp, Tel al-Hawa neighborhood, Sheikh Ajlin, and the western areas of Gaza City, which pumps 25,000m³ of wastewater daily to the public treatment plant."

The Gaza Strip has a requirement for around 180 million cubic metres of water annually. Renewable sources cannot produce more than 80 million cubic metres a year.

Israeli forces have also targeted water wells and hit the water lines of Haouz Water in the Gaza Strip, creating a shortage of water in the region.

The Islamic Society near Maqousi towers owns one of the targeted water wells, and the other is located in Zaytoon. Both supply close to 7,000 people.

Israeli forces targeted more than five water lines that are located in important areas. A single water line provides service to more than 20,000 people.
