Virginia Public Service Authority to build new wastewater facility

Tazewell County Public Service Authority has broken ground on a new water facility which will serve the communities of Claypool Hill and Wardell in Virginia, US.

The approximately $8m plant will be capable of treating 700,000gal of water a day. The current facility at Claypool Hill was built in the 1980s and has the capacity to treat around 350,000gal a day.

The Virginia Department of Environmental Quality is providing $6.8m in funding for the project and $1m principal forgiveness. A $400,000 Southwest Virginia Regional Water / Wastewater grant and $97,250 in local funding are also supporting the project.

Tazewell County Public Service Authority chairman Don Dunford told Bluefield Daily Telegraph that the new facility will allow for more residential and commercial developments.

Project manager Rick Chitwood said: "We started about a month ago. We wanted to celebrate breaking ground. It’s been a long time coming."

The project is expected to be operational by the end of 2015.
