SNC-Lavalin Secures Libya Water Project

SNC-Lavalin has secured a $450m contract from Libya to develop the Al Kufra Wellfield, which transports drinking water from southern Libya to urban areas in the north.

The project includes the design of wellfield systems and construction related to connecting the new wellfield to the existing water distribution systems.

It also includes the installation of collector pipelines, pumps in 300 deep wells and a power supply and communications system.

The Kufra water project will provide an additional 1.68 million cubic metres of water per day to the main spine and increase the hydraulic capacity of the existing water conveyance systems.

The Canadian construction firm will begin the work soon and the project is expected to be complete by 2015.
