Washington to Expand Wastewater Treatment Plant

Design work is underway at the planned $350m expansion of the wastewater treatment plant located at University Place, Pierce County, in Washington, US.

The improvements will include new treatment technology for enhanced nitrogen removal, increased odour control, the ability to produce more SoundGRO fertiliser, expansion of the disinfection capacity, processing equipment and laboratory, and improved operations, maintenance and warehouse facilities.

Pierce County Council has approved a $62m bond issue as the first of three tranches to finance the project, which will be delivered by Pierce County’s Sewer Utility, reports universityplace.patch.com.

Construction is expected to take place in 2013 and the project will be complete in 2016.
