Mekotor to Build Desalination Plant in Israel

Mekotor National Water has received approval from Israel’s finance ministry to build a desalination plant in Ashdod, Israel.

The plant is expected to supply 100 million cubic metres of water per year at cost of NIS2.4 ($0.70) per cubic metre.

Construction of the Ashdod plant, as well as a new desalination plant being built at Sore, will finish by 2013, reports The Jerusalem Post.

According to the ministry, the two plants will provide 540 million cubic metres of desalinated water per day, which is equal to 40% of the country’s freshwater supply.
