WABAG Wins Iraq Wastewater Plant Contract

23 February 2010

WABAG has been awarded a contract by Shiraz Water and Wastewater Company to develop a new wastewater plant for the city of Shiraz in Iran.

WABAG will receive €32m ($43m) for the project, which is estimated to cost €60m ($81m) in total.

The company said, the energy efficient facility is expected to treat 100,000m³ of wastewater daily corresponding to 500,000pe. The plant will be outfitted with wastewater and sludge treatment technology.

The cleaned wastewater will be used for agricultural irrigation while end-treated sludge will be used as a fertiliser due to its high nitrogen and phosphate content.

Also, biogas generated during the cleaning process will be used for energy production in a combined heat and power plant offering improved CO2 balance for the plant.

WABAG will collaborate with local developer JYANE who will oversee the construction of the plant.

The wastewater plant is to be completed within three years and start-up is scheduled for early 2013.

WABAG will oversee the operational management of the new wastewater treatment plant.
