The long-term water supply challenges in the Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta, California, USA, will be addressed by a $11.14bn water bond supported by the Helix Water District board of directors.
The water bond will provide funding for water supply reliability and sustainability of the region if the Safe, Clean and Reliable Drinking Water Supply Act of 2010 is approved in November.
It will also aid in other long-term measures such as water recycling, conservation, surface and groundwater storage, groundwater protection and clean-up and drought relief.
The California Legislature approved the water package, which was signed by the Governor in November 2009, according to the board.
If approved by voters the bond measure would fund projects and programmes to improve water infrastructure in the State of California.
Helix operates as a public agency under Irrigation District Laws of the State of California.
