PUB, Singapore's water agency, has awarded the contract to build a membrane bioreactor (MBR) at the Jurong Water Reclamation Plant to Hydrochem, a subsidiary of Hyflux.
Under the S$35.8m ($25m) contract, Hydrochem will design, construct, test and commission the 68,000m³ per day capacity plant, which is claimed to be the largest in the nation.
MBR is expected to use biological processes and microfiltration membranes to treat used water from the industrial Jurong catchment area for use by industries on Jurong Island, according to workingwithwater.net.
Construction began on 3 March 2010 and is expected to be complete within 18 months.
