Scottish £24m Water Project Kicks Off

10 March 2010

Work has begun on a £24m ($36m) water project that aims to provide drinking water to people in and around the Cairngorms National Park in Scotland.

The project, being delivered by water and sewerage services provider Scottish Water, involves installing a new pipeline near the A9 Inverness to Perth road at Aviemore.

The 18in-diameter pipe will take treated drinking water from a new plant planned for Kinakyle to a storage tank due to be built above High Burnside, according to pressandjournal.co.uk.

Work on the first section of pipeline will begin next week and is expected to be completed in seven weeks, while the second section will take three months to complete.

The first section will be laid between Kinakyle and the southern entrance to Aviemore, while the second section will be installed adjacent to the A9 between the south of the village and High Burnside.

The new plant, which is expected to provide drinking water from next year, will replace Loch Einich as the area's drinking water source.
