BioteQ Environmental Technologies (BioteQ), in partnership with Jiangxi Copper Company (JCC), will initiate work on a third water treatment plant located at the Dexing Mine in China.
The project is aimed to recover nickel and cobalt using a modified ion-exchange technology developed by Canadian water treatment firm BioteQ.
A BioteQ-commissioned pilot plant currently operational at the site will serve as the basis for a design report, which will be furnished for evaluation of the proposed project.
JCC, the largest copper producer in China, manages the pilot plant operation under BioteQ's supervision.
The pilot plant and design report will take three months to complete, and will define the project's scope and parameters, and clarity on the investment required, the company said.
After the report is completed, the joint venture partners will decide on the project construction, which is expected to take place in the third quarter of 2010.
BioteQ and JCC signed a joint venture agreement in 2006, which identified six potential projects that could apply BioteQ's water treatment technologies.
