The Australian state of Queensland will get a 3,000km pipeline to transport fresh water from Papua New Guinea to south-east Queensland at a cost of $30bn.
Queensland businessman Fred Ariel signed an agreement with the Papua New Guinea Government for the project, which will supply water from the highlands of Papua New Guinea to the Australian state.
The pipeline project will provide six gigalitres of water a day to be used for consumption, irrigation purposes or pumped into the Murray-Darling river system.
The Australian tourism entrepreneur believes the project will meet growing water demands in Queensland and provide water at a cheaper rate compared with desalination and water recycling, according to abc.net.ou.
