US County Starts Wastewater Plant

2 September 2010

Escambia County of Florida, US, has brought a $320m new water reclamation facility onstream after the old plant was affected by Hurricane Evan six years ago.

The new facility was built 100ft above sea level compared with the old plant, which was 7ft above sea level, in order to minimise flooding.

The new plant can also withstand category five hurricanes with wind speeds of 190 miles per hour.

The plant will process high quality water, which can be pumped directly to Gulf Power and International Paper for use in their industrial processes.
