AbTech Holdings has completed field testing of its Smart Sponge Mixed Media Contractor to treat produced water at a natural gas exploration and production site in Wyoming, US.
The firm has designed the new item to remove hydrocarbons in the produced water, substantially increasing the useful life of downstream treatment equipment and technologies including a reverse osmosis system.
According to the test, the contractor removed 99.99% of the free oil and dissolved phase hydrocarbons at the site.
AbTech completed field testing and collected the data rigorously throughout 2011.
