AECOM JV secures design-build contract for US water treatment plants

AECOM Technology has reported that its joint venture company has secured a $62.3m contract to design and construct two water treatment plants in the city of Newport, Rhode Island, US.

The joint venture team will provide start-up, permitting, design services and commissioning services for both the plants, which are Lawton Valley water treatment plant and Station No 1 plant.

AECOM chairman and chief executive officer John Dionisio said that under the partnership with the City of Newport, the company will provide innovative solutions for the city's long-range water quality goals.

"This is another example of AECOM's successful commitment to the highest standards for client service and solutions," Dionisio said.

As part of the work for Station No 1, the team will upgrade the existing water treatment plant that has a production capacity of 9 million gallons per day.

The team will demolish the Lawton Valley water treatment plant, which has a production capacity of 7 million-gallons per day, and will replace it with a new, compact building.
