Utility American Water has received a patent from the US Patent and Trademark Office for its optimised nutrient removal from wastewater solution.
The new process is designed to provide a sustainable way of treating sewage, creating savings in energy and process chemicals used for wastewater treatment.
American Water innovation and environmental stewardship director Mark LeChevallier said that the innovation demonstrated by the patent will help to cost-effectively address pressing needs for improved wastewater treatment technology.
