Brazilian water utility Caern is to release a R$110m ($62.6m) tender by the end of the year to build a potable water supply system for the city of Mossoró in Rio Grande do Norte, Brazil.

The scope of work includes the construction of a water treatment plant at the Santa Cruz dam in the town of Apodi, 60km south-east of Mossoró.

Caern will build a 92km cast iron distribution pipeline from the treatment plant to increase Mossoró's potable water supply by 60%.

The project will receive R$59m from the federal government and R$51m from the state government.

A Caern spokesperson said that the utility will forward the plan to federal savings bank Caixa Econômica Federal by 15 October 2011 and will launch the tender on receiving approval.
