California American Water signs agreement to buy Hillview Water Company

California American Water has signed an agreement to buy operating assets of Hillview Water Company and assume the provision of water service within its service area between Oakhurst and Raymond, California.

Hillview Water Company comprises around 1,500 metered customer connections. It is located 67 miles from California American Water’s Meadowbrook service area in Merced.

The acquisition of the system along with the Meadowbrook service area will double California American Water’s customer base in the Central Valley to over 3,100 customers.

Currently, California American Water provides water service to almost 600,000 people in the state, about one-third of whom belong to the Central Valley. 

Hillview Water Company customers will be served by California Amercian Water's water treatment and distribution operators who are are certified through the California Division of Drinking Water.

The customers will also have access to California American Water’s customer-friendly services such as a low-income discount programme and web self-service that includes paperless billing.

California American Water also offers conservation programmes intended to help customers cut water usage and features free conservation tools as well as free water-wise house calls.

California American Water director of northern California operations Audie Foster said: “As a result of this acquisition, many of the Hillview Water Company customers will have access to our various services such as our ambitious conservation programme, paperless billing and web self-service portal.

“I am looking forward to meeting our new customers from Hillview Water Company and welcoming them to our services.”

California American Water, a unit of American Water, offers reliable water and/or wastewater services to over 660,000 people.
