DC Water selects Aclara for advanced metering infrastructure network in Columbia, US


The District of Columbia Water and Sewer Authority (DC Water) has selected infrastructure solutions provider Aclara Technologies to provide an advanced metering infrastructure (AMI) network and install water metres as part of a city-wide system upgrade.

DC Water intends to replace over  85,000 metres in homes and some smaller multi-unit buildings.

Aclara will provide installation services through its Smart Grid Solutions business unit, which utilises ProField mobile workforce management technology to handle AMI rollouts with installation services as well as provisioning of field labour..

Aclara Technologies CEO and president Allan Connolly said: "This project leverages Aclara's strength not only in leading-edge smart infrastructure technologies, but also our ability to offer customers end-to-end solutions that encompass edge devices, advanced metering infrastructure (AMI), as well as full turnkey systems that increase productivity and reduce operating costs.”

DC Water CEO and general manager George Hawkins said: "This project is one more example of our mission to incorporate innovative technology in our operations for customer benefit and operational efficiencies.”

The project is slated for completion in 2018.

Aclara Technologies offers solutions to more than 800 water, gas, and electric utilities across the world.

Its solutions include smart meters and other field devices, advanced metering infrastructure and software and services that allow utilities to effectively manage their distribution networks.
