
Germany-based Elster and Australia's Freestyle Technology have integrated ZigBee technology from Ember, a supplier of wireless semi-conductor solutions, into the new Elster V200 digital water meter to serve global markets.
Ember's ZigBee System-on-Chip and ZigBee PRO networking software enables the wireless water meter to help utilities and consumers manage their water more economically.
The Elster V200 water meters will be integrated into wireless home area networks and will help households conserve water, electricity and other resources.
ZigBee Smart Energy version 1.1 enables the V200 meters for easy development, installation and operation.
Elster said a wireless ZigBee-to-IP hub communicates usage data back to the utility for billing and service applications.
Andy Man, Ember Asia-Pacific region sales vice president, said the partnership between Elster and Freestyle will develop tailored metering solutions that comply with European regulations for smart gas and electricity.
Freestyle is focused on delivering technology solutions for customers, retailers, network providesr and support services in the utilities industry.
Elster is a provider of distribution monitoring, advanced smart metering and demand response. It also provides networking, software solutions, as well as numerous communications and services.
