The US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has proposed a plan for the clean-up of the Centredale Manor restoration project site in North Providence, Rhode Island.
The clean-up plan involves the clean-up of sediment, soil, surface water and groundwater contamination.
EPA will use a combination of containment and treatment methods to remove buried waste material from the source area, and the majority of the contaminated Woonasquatucket river sediment and floodplain soil near and downstream of the source area.
The organisation will also install new hazardous waste isolation caps over the remaining source area and place restrictions on usage of groundwater.
The total clean-up plan is estimated to cost about $101m.
