The provincial government of Addis Ababa in Ethiopia has unveiled plans to build new water dams for an estimated cost of ETB8bn ($460m).
The dams will be equipped with water treatment plants to supply 688,500m3 of water a day, which can increase gradually.
The new structures will receive water though a tunnel passing through Mount Entoto and will be located on the Sibilu and Gerbi rivers.
The Ethiopian Ministry of Finance and Economic Development received funds for the project from the World Bank, reports2merkato.com.
The news comes just weeks after Ethiopia invited Egypt and Sudan for talks over a controversial dam project to be built on the Blue Nile river. Concerns have been raised from down stream countries that construction of the massive dam project will reduce waterflow.
