FCC Aqualia wins €300m sewerage management contract in Qatar

Citizen Services Group’s water management subsidiary FCC Aqualia, in a consortium with the South Korean firm Hyundai, has won a €300m bid for a water sewerage contract in Al Dhakhira, Qatar.

Under the contract the company will manage the sewage treatment in the city for ten years.

Al Dhakhira is located on the east coast of Qatar, around 60km from its capital, Doha.

FCC Aqualia has formed the consortium through its subsidiary Aqualia MAVE for design, construction, operation and maintenance of wastewater treatment facilities, wastewater pumping stations, transfer pumping station and collectors in the city.

Ashghal, the Public Works Authority in charge of sewerage and wastewater treatment issues in the country, has commissioned the project.

The Spanish-Koran consortium won the bid through the official tender procedure. Other bidders included firms such as Cadagua, Acciona, Ferrovial, Daewoo, Samsung and Marubeni.

According to the contract, the consortium will use the latest technology for improvement of the sewerage and wastewater treatment facilities and services in the city.

More than 35km of pipes with peak flows favouring maximum wastewater treatment with a combined capacity of 168,000m² will laid as part of the project.

A wastewater tank having capacity of 84,000m² will also be set up for the city, which has over 200,000 residents.

FCC Aqualia has won two other contracts in the region, one being for sewerage management in the city of Al-Ain, Abu Dhabi and the other one for enhancing water supply network’s efficiency in Riyadh.
