A new water supply source project planned to be developed in Metro Manila, the Philippines has received funding approval from the country's project development and monitoring facility (PDMF) board.
The Metropolitan Waterworks and Sewerage System (MWSS) will develop the water supply source project, which will cost around PHP25bn ($573m).
Work will include the construction of a dam, water treatment plant, and associated main pipeline to deliver water to the city.
The project, to be delivered under the public-private partnership (PPP) mode, is expected to increase the potable water supply for 15 million residents in Metro Manila, who currently rely on the Angat reservoir.
MWSS has also received funding approval for the PHP20bn ($458m) Balara Water Hub project, which will be an international centre for water excellence.
The centre will promote the best practices in water utilisation, conservation and recycling, sewerage and sanitation, as well as overall environmental stewardship.
