GE, Desalitech and Israel's national water firm Mekorot are working together to develop an innovative membrane-based municipal wastewater treatment system in Israel.
The treatment system will be located at Mekorot's Research and Development Center in Shafdan, and will have capacity of 100m3 a day, reports desalination.biz.
The system will include Desalitech's closed circuit desalination and GE's ultra-low energy membrane reverse osmosis technologies.
Municipal wastewater, which is treated with about 1,000ppm of dissolved solids, will be purified with a single stage of membrane elements at a recovery rate of 92% or higher for agricultural reuse.
The project is part of the GE-Desalitech research collaboration, which is supported by the Israel-US Binational Industrial Research and Development Foundation.
