GE will provide its power and water technology solutions to GELOR, an Australian-based consortium of GE Betz and Laing O'Rourke Construction.
GELOR will use GE's on-site power generation and water filtration equipment for its water treatment plant, which is being built near Chinchilla in Queensland on behalf of QGC, the coal seam gas explorer and producer.
GE's Waukesha and Jenbacher gas engines will generate on-site power for the advanced membrane and thermal water treatment technologies, which will be installed to desalinate water produced during the extraction of coal seam gas.
The water treatment facility will have the capacity to treat up to 100 million litres a day and will begin commercial operations in 2012.
