Hindustan Construction Company (HCC) has secured a letter of acceptance (LOA) for an Rs289Cr ($54.29m) contract from Gujarat Water Infrastructure for the construction of a bulk water transmission system in the Indian state of Gujarat.
Under the terms of the contract, HCC will construct a 57km water transmission pipeline between Dhanki and Maliya villages, under the Swarnim Gujarat Saurashtra-Kutch Water Grid Programme (NC-31).
The engineering, procurement and construction contract involves the construction of a 32km long MS Pipeline, 2,150mm in diameter (ID) and 14.5mm thick; as well as a 25km long MS Pipeline, 2,000mm in diameter and 13.5mm thick.
The deal also requires HCC to commission and maintain the water transmission system for five years.
Gujarat Water Infrastructure will complete the project in 12 months.
HCC has constructed seven irrigation dams, 18 barrages, 35 water treatment plants and 70 sewage treatment plants; in addition to India's first and largest private sector water supply project in Tirupur, Tamil Nadu.
The company has also carried out 25km of tunnelling at depths of up to 80m in the congested urban environment in Mumbai.
HCC's experience in the water and irrigation sector spans from the construction of dams, barrages, canals and pipelines to water and sewage treatment plants. It also builds prestressed and reinforced concrete aqueducts.
