The US Army Corps of Engineers has awarded a $42m contract to EMCOR Group's subsidiary Harry Pepper & Associates (HPA) to replace two culverts that control water flow for Lake Okeechobee in the US state of Florida.

The contract is part of the Herbert Hoover Dike rehabilitation project, which is located in Martin and Palm Beach Counties, Florida.

Under the contract, HPA will remove two culverts and replace them with new water control structures, providing flood protection and irrigation to the surrounding community, as part of the Herbert Hoover Dike.

The scope of work includes the demolition of the culverts, placing lengths of cut-off wall to close gaps, placing new cast-in-place concrete culvert structures with gates and control systems, and restoring the embankment.

The project also covers the construction of cofferdams, de-watering, re-watering on completion of the new culvert structures, removing the cofferdams, and the installation of new rip-rap at the culvert locations.
