21 November 2011

The Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) has allocated a $133m loan to Jamaica National Water Commission to improve water supply in the city of Kingston and the surrounding areas.

Under the 20-year agreement, the potable water services provided by the Kingston Metropolitan Area (KMA) will be improved and water access in selected urban centers will be increased.

The rehabilitation of the potable water supply for the KMA will include financing the completion of works in selected water treatment and production facilities.

At urban centres, improvement works will include design, construction and implementation or water production, treatment and distribution systems.

Energy efficiency improvements will include rehabilitation of some water production facilities, such as pumping and lifting stations, reservoirs, electromechanical parts and measuring devices, in addition to providing operating and maintenance measures.
