Itron to supply further advanced metering equipment in Australia

Melbourne and regional water companies in Victoria, Australia, have selected Itron’s advanced metering equipments to modernise water network systems and improve water management.

Itron advanced meters will be employed by four water utilities: Yarra Valley Water, South East Water, Barwon Water, and City West Water.

The advanced meters will be installed at all the four utilities over a span of three years and are expected to help the utilities better manage the water supply, optimise the valuable resource and improve conservation.

Itron meters to be supplied are equipped with communication modules that will report the amount of water consumed as and when needed.

City West Water metering services coordinator Andrew Geary said Melbourne Combined Utilities has been partners with Itron for a long time.

"As a trusted partner, Itron continues to help us create a more intelligent water network in Victoria," Geary added.

"With Itron’s improved meter accuracy and advanced metering communication, we can address our need for improved metering accuracy and efficient collection of accurate meter data."

Itron Australia general manager Sheena Trumble said the company is helping the Australian water providers address their business challenges.

"Our work with the Melbourne and regional water companies exemplifies Itron’s ability to deliver proven technology that meets the unique needs of the country," Trumble added.

The latest contract follows a previous three-year contract between Itron and the four utilities for the advanced metres.
