Jaguar Land Rover initiates safe water programme for schools in Kenya

UK-based luxury vehicle manufacturer Jaguar Land Rover will be offering safe water access to 300,000 school pupils in the Bungoma region of Kenya under its global corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiative.

Climate and sustainable development experts ClimateCare and Vestergaard will be delivering the project with the automaker’s support and use LifeStraw Community water purifiers for the purpose.

Over the next five years, the project will benefit 375 schools with these water system installations which is expected to improve health, education and employment prospects of the Kenyan students.

Teams comprising LifeStraw staff will be visiting the schools in each term to ensure that the new smart water filtration technology is installed and are used correctly.

The team will carry out further programmes in the schools as a part of the planned monitoring process.

Bungoma Central based Visionary Academy director Stephen Buchunju said: "We are delighted to welcome Jaguar Land Rover, ClimateCare and Vestergaard staff to the school for the launch of this new project.

"Our children get illnesses such as typhoid and diarrhoea from dirty water which affects their education. The new LifeStraw Community filters will ensure we have a safe water supply which will improve their health and education prospects of our students and give them the best start to life."
