Laing O’Rourke Imtech JV wins contract to upgrade UK wastewater treatment project

Laing O’Rourke Imtech joint venture (JV) has secured a £171m contract from United Utilities for modernisation of Davyhulme Waste Water Treatment Works in Manchester, UK.

The Davyhulme facility is a major facility in Northwest parts of the country, offering its services to more than a million UK citizens.

Under the deal, the JV will work for remediation of abandoned land prior to the construction of six circular primary settlement tanks (PST) and an activated sludge plant (ASP) with ten circular final settlement tanks (FST) at the site.

The modernisation project is expected to increase the outflow of the waste water treatment facility and improve the quality of the treated water, which is discharged in to the Manchester Ship Canal.

Advanced digital engineering and DfMA (Design for Manufacture and Assembly) solutions will be implemented for the modernisation project, which will enable Laing O’Rourke Imtech JV to virtually design the project before starting with its construction. It will also facilitate ease of commissioning and optimise long-term operation and maintenance for the plant.

Use of DfMA will help the JV to continue with the upgrade works at the facility, without affecting its ongoing processes.
