L&T Construction to develop water infrastructure projects in Rajasthan, India

Water & Effluent Treatment Strategic Business Group (SBG) of L&T Construction has won turnkey orders worth Rs14.8bn ($224.6m) from Public Health Engineering Department, Ajmer, under the Rajasthan Rural Water Supply and Fluorosis Mitigation Project (Nagaur) in India.

Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) is the financier for the water projects, for which the orders have been awarded in three packages.

Once completed, the projects are expected to deliver potable water to 986 villages and seven urban towns in Nagaur district and 111 villages and two towns of Bikaner district in Rajasthan.

SBG is expected to build a 5310ML raw water reservoir, a 250 millions of litres per day (MLD) water treatment facility and raw water and clear water pumping stations as parts of the deal.

The orders also include scope for setting up mild steel and ductile iron pipelines, electro-mechanical and instrumentation and other allied works including operation and maintenance of the water system for the villages and towns.

L&T Construction is a unit under the Indian multinational Larsen & Toubro (L&T) which offers technology, engineering, construction, manufacturing and financial services and has over $15bn in revenue.

The SBG handles turnkey infrastructure projects including water treatment plants, water supply and distribution networks, desalination plants, water management system, waste water networks, waste water treatment plants, complete industrial water solutions covering water treatment, effluent treatment, de-mineralisation, water reuse and lift irrigation systems.
