Metito on target for sewage treatment projects in Qatar

12 January 2012

Metito has announced it will complete treatment work at three new sewage projects for Ashghal in Qatar by the end of the year.

The projects include a QR99m ($27.17m) second phase expansion of the existing Industrial Area sewage treatment plant, a QR40m ($10.98m) closed loop sewage tanker reception facility at the Doha West sewage treatment works, as well as a QR10m ($2.74m) development for three mobile sludge dewatering units.

Metito will provide a sequencing batch reactor-based treatment plant, with a capacity of 12,000m3 a day for the planned expansion, which began earlier this month. The company will also deliver an ultra-filtration system with a capacity 24,000m3 a day for post-treatment to cater to the existing plant, as well as the second phase.

Metito Qatar and Bahrain general manager Walid Oraby said: "This expansion will allow the plant to produce water suitable for irrigation and eliminate the hassle of transporting sewage in tanker trucks."

The company is designing and building the closed loop sewage tanker reception facility at the Doha West Sewage Treatment Works on a nine-month timeline. It is also designing and building three mobile sludge dewatering units to help Ashghal to take the containerised trailer mounted units to various STPs in Qatar.

Metito is involved in the design and supply of water, wastewater treatment, as well as water desalination plants and systems.
