Metito to design and build a wastewater treatment plant in southern Kufa, Iraq

UAE-based water management solutions provider Metito has entered into an agreement with F&B Investment for a wastewater treatment plant in south of Kufa, Iraq.

Under the $6.8m agreement, Metito will design, build, select and supply all the mechanical and electrical equipment for the plant.

Initiated by the Najaf Governorate, the wastewater plant will treat sewer and stormwater to meet the water requirements of the growing population in the region.

The company will design the facility with a capacity to handle 50,000m³ of water per day.

The wastewater plant will use a new turbo-reactor for intense biofilm production technology (Turbo4bio), which is an energy efficient process to treat water.

Turbo4bio technology is suitable to treat municipal wastewater and low to medium industrial wastewater to produce effluent with almost zero to very low sludge production.

The plant design also features a self-cleaning capability to prevent any clogging, in order to make the system maintenance-free.

Metito Iraq, Jordan and Syria general manager Moustafa Hasan was quoted by Ame Info as saying that the government of Iraq is working to improve water infrastructure across the country.

"The water and wastewater industry is growing rapidly and steadily in Iraq, reflecting the needs of the expanding urban areas and the increasing population," Hasan added.

"This is done without any compromise to the quality of deliverables required by the managing bodies, and Metito is therefore honored to be partnering with F&B Investment in playing a role in the sustainable development of such an important and strategic country."
