MinDa to launch water programme in the Philippines

17 November 2011

The Mindanao Development Authority (MinDA) and its partner agencies are planning to launch the Midanao Nuturing Our Waters Programme in the Philippines later this month.

The programme will involve the integration and rationalisation of plans, programmes, policies and processes for the protection and rehabilitation of the 13 river basins and 262 watersheds in Mindanao region.

The project will look into the condition of Mindanao's river basins and watersheds as the majority of the areas have become high-risk or prone to flooding problems and related environmental threats.

Cecilia Trino, MinDa's technical staff, said the programme will use an ecosystems integration approach to strike a balance between the economy and the environment.
