Mueller Systems to upgrade water infrastructure in Yonkers, US

Mueller Systems has been awarded a contract to overhaul the aging water meter infrastructure and improve the level of service provided to residents in the city of Yonkers, New York.

The company will install its MegaNet System, a high-powered, long-range, fixed-network, advanced metering infrastructure (AMI) system capable of delivering long-range results with a reliable communication infrastructure.

By the end of 2014, the company will have installed around 30,000 water meters throughout the city.

Yonkers will also implement Mi.Data, Mueller Systems’ consumer portal, which helps customers to manage their water consumption. The consumer portal allows utility customers to access information about their water usage.

Yonkers Mayor Mike Spano said that the city aims to provide taxpayers with the best available services and tools to more efficiently manage water usage.

"Building new state-of-the-art water infrastructure will improve the reliability, clarity and timeliness of water bills and communication between the city and residents," Spano added.

Mueller Systems vice president and general manager Hassan Ali said: "The MegaNet System and Mi.Data are designed to provide a foundation to automate the collection of meter readings, provide customers with a better understanding of their water bills, help identify leaks that are responsible for losing treated water and promote greater operating efficiencies for the city."
