The National Water Company (NWC of Saudi Arabia is to award SAR2.9bn ($773m) of contracts for 55 water and wastewater projects in Riyadh and Jeddah by the second quarter of 2012.
In Jeddah, contracts worth SAR1.1bn involve the design and construction of a mega warehouse, which will serve the Western Province and the Jeddah Reservoir.
In Riyadh, SAR1.8bn will be spent on the development of a new water treatment plant and the drilling of wells and pumps in Sa'ad, and the implementation of wastewater networks in Al-Aziziah and lifting stations in Al-Massanea and Al-Yamamah.
The projects will receive funding from the Ministry of Finance and are part of the government's call to manage water networks and conserve water to ensure a consistent supply in the country.
NWC CEO Loay Musallam told Arab News that six wastewater projects and 18 water projects will be completed in Riyadh by the second quarter of 2012.
