Paraguay is to expand its potable water and sanitation coverage under an $88m programme backed by the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) and the Spanish Government.
The country will receive a $60m grant from the Spanish Cooperation Fund for Water and Sanitation in Latin America and Caribbean, a $20m loan from the IDB and $8m from local sources.
The objective of the project is to provide sustainable potable water services and basic sanitation facilities to poor and indigenous populations in Central Chaco.
The programme also includes sanitary sewer services and wastewater treatment, as well as improvements in potable water systems for the residents of intermediate cities in the Eastern Region.
