Pemex partners with GWDP to upgrade its water and wastewater infrastructure in Mexico

Mexican state-owned petroleum company Petroleos Mexicanos (Pemex) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Global Water Development Partners (GWDP) to develop water and wastewater infrastructure in former’s upstream and downstream facilities.

The partners intend to make joint investment to speed up Pemex’s initiatives to design, implement and finance environment solutions for its oil and gas water and wastewater treatment operations in the North American country.

GWDP CEO Usha Rao-Monari said: "We look forward to partnering with Pemex to provide innovative and sustainable water solutions throughout its value chain."

Besides offering financial support, the partnership is expected to enable Pemex to access advanced technologies in the industry and allow it to implement integrated full-service water systems to meet its water supply and wastewater treatment needs.

The firm intends to use the support to upgrade its onshore and offshore oil production facilities, refineries and petrochemical plants.

PMI general director Jose Manuel Carrera said: "The partnership will enable Pemex to better focus its financial resources on its core business, while addressing its water and wastewater needs with a world-class partner like Global Water Development Partners."

US based private investment banking group Blackstone had established Global Water Development Partners in 2014 to expand its investment in the global water and waste sector.

Blackstone senior managing director Sean Klimczak said: "Blackstone is very excited to partner with Pemex in its mission-critical oil and gas-related water and wastewater treatment efforts."
