Pentair develops new water purification technology

4 November 2011

US-based Pentair has developed a new electronic water purification system Hybrid Deionization (Hybrid DI) for residential applications.

Hybrid DI systems will utilise CrossCharge technology and provide the benefits of a reverse osmosis (RO) system and those of a water softener without requiring salt.

The CrossCharge technology has been developed through a partnership with Voltea, which has licensed the technology to Pentair in residential and light commercial applications for point-of-entry products.

The new technology will use capacitive electrodes to remove hardness and purify water without employing salt.

The CrossCharge technology within the Hybrid DI system is driven by a micro-controller using an array of sensors to monitor and manage all system and water quality parameters in real-time.

Pentair's residential filtration business president Alok Maskara said that Hybrid DI combines the functionality of an RO system with that of a water softener and does not use salt.
